Biography

Adriana coordinates the Dynamic Knowledge and Library Team at the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights in Geneva. She has led the implementation of OHCHR’s Organizational Effectiveness Action Plan on Dynamic Knowledge, as a member of OHCHR’s Methodology, Education and Training Section, since 2018.

Adriana started working with the UN in 2000. She worked in Peacekeeping missions (East Timor and Kosovo) on human rights related issues (elections; rights of minorities; return of IDPs and refugees) for 5 years. She joined the Portuguese Diplomatic service in Vienna, Austria, during the Portuguese Chairmanship of the OSCE, as desk-officer for South-Eastern Europe, and worked with UNESCO in Mozambique, on Social and Human Affairs. She was then Programme Coordinator of the University Centre for International Cooperation, University of Parma, Italy.

After that, she spent 3 years at UN Headquarters in New York, at the Integrated Training Service of the Department of Peace Operations, focusing on training programmes for peacekeeping civilian personnel, connecting good practices with learning programmes. In mid-2010, she joined the UN System Staff College as Learning Specialist on Human Rights-based Approach (HRBA) to Development and Course Coordinator on Sustainable Development, Gender and Human Rights, working on learning and knowledge management. In that role, in 2012 she co-founded the UN Summer Academy. Thereafter, based in Jerusalem between 2015 and 2018, Adriana consulted with UN Country Teams, building capacities for integration of HRBA to analysis processes, facilitating strategic planning retreats, supporting knowledge management, monitoring and evaluation frameworks and processes, team building efforts, among other.

Adriana graduated in International Relations in 1997 in Lisbon, in the Instituto Superior de Ciencias Sociais e Politicas, and completed the European Master’s Degree in Human Rights and Democratization in 1999 in Venice, at the European Inter-University Centre for Human Rights and Democratisation (EIUC).
